The Portmore community in St. Catherine is reeling from the shocking death of 15-year-old Duscane Elliot, who was fatally stabbed during a heated confrontation with a 14-year-old girl. The heartbreaking incident, which unfolded in Newland, Portmore, has sparked outrage and grief across Jamaica, raising urgent concerns about youth violence, mental health support, and the troubling rise of teen crime.
🔥 The Fatal Portmore Dispute
According to police reports, the tragedy occurred last Friday around 12:30 p.m. at Elliot’s Beverly Flat residence. The 14-year-old suspect reportedly visited the boy’s home intending to burn her boyfriend’s clothes, which also included some of Elliot’s belongings.
When Elliot, who had been asleep, realized his clothes were being destroyed, he tried to stop her. What began as an argument quickly spiraled out of control. In a sudden and devastating act, the girl allegedly stabbed him in the chest with half of a pair of scissors.
💔 Elliot’s Final Moments
Neighbors recall Elliot stumbling outside, clutching his chest and desperately calling for help. Despite the efforts of residents, he collapsed before reaching the hospital. Witnesses described his last moments with tears, saying, “Him basically dead right here before him reach hospital.”
Police swiftly intervened, and the accused was taken into custody. She later admitted to the stabbing and has since been formally charged with murder. A court date is currently being arranged.

The tragedy is even more painful given Elliot’s personal story. He had been living on his own since his mother’s death last year. Despite challenges, neighbors said he was determined to return to school this semester. Known for his politeness, respect, and ambition, community members remembered him as a young man trying to rebuild his life.
One resident shared: “Nobody in this community have anything negative to say about him because him full a manners.” Another neighbor, who had planned to buy him school shoes the very day he died, broke down in grief.
