A Mother’s Grief: Promising UWI Graduate Killed in Allman Town, Jamaica

In a heartbreaking turn of events, a mother in Allman Town, Kingston, is left to mourn the devastating
loss of her son, Keauno “Popsy” Watson. Just days after receiving confirmation of his successful
completion of a degree from the University of the West Indies (UWI), the 23-year-old’s life was
tragically cut short by gun violence. The shocking ordeal unfolded live on TikTok, leaving a community in despair and shattering a family.

Watson, an ambitious young man with dreams of lifting his family out of the struggles of ghetto life, was on the cusp of a bright future. He had just completed a degree in International Relations (IR) and Psychology, a significant achievement that filled him with pride and hope. On Sunday, he excitedly shared the news with his mother, Sandra Blair, sending her a screenshot of his UWI status letter.

“Mommy, I’m finally done with UWI,” he joyfully announced. Blair, still in disbelief, recalled his words, “Mi can get a peace of mind.”

Watson was the youngest of three children and the light of his mother’s life. He was a former student of St. George’s College, known for his humility and determination to succeed. His family had high hopes for his future, especially as he planned to officially graduate in October.

Tragically, those dreams ended when Watson stepped outside his Dames Road home in Allman Town. The place where he sought fresh air became the scene of his untimely death. Gunmen opened fire, striking both Watson and another man. While the other man sustained severe injuries, doctors pronounced Watson dead upon his arrival at the hospital.

The horror of the incident extended beyond the streets as TikTok broadcasted it live, serving as a chilling reminder of the violence that plagues communities. Sandra Blair hasn’t watched the video, but the thought of people publicly sharing her son’s final moments haunts her.

“He lived in the ghetto and was very humble. He always pays attention to him,” Blair tearfully recounted. The pain of her loss is compounded by the fact that she had encouraged him to step outside for fresh air, unaware of the danger that awaited him. “I never knew say him out there when mi hear the shot,” she lamented.

The senseless killing has left a void that can never be filled, forcing Watson’s family to grapple with the devastating loss of a son, a brother, and a young man whose future held so much promise.

As the community mourns, 876newsja.com will continue to provide updates on this tragic incident. We extend our deepest condolences to Sandra Blair and her family during this incredibly difficult time.
